- Left Virginia Tech during freshmen year to help mother run the family farm after his father passed away
- Went back to school and received a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Averett University in 1996
- Took over family farm business in 1998
- Elected to Halifax County Board of Supervisors in 1999
- Selected as Vice Chairman of Board of Supervisors in 2000
- Long-time volunteer at organizations like Good Samaritan Food & Clothing Bank, National Wild Turkey Federation, Wounded Warriors of Iraq and Afghanistan, Hunters for the Hungry, and through his church
